How to Write Dates Correctly There are many different ways to write dates, so knowing which one to use in your work can be difficult. At a basic level, you need to get the format and information correct. But you also need to consider whether the style in which you’ve written the date is appropriate for your document.In formal writing, always write the date in full when it is part of a sentence. This will usually involve giving the day of the month, the month, and the year: The meeting will take place on April 21, 2019. Note that the year follows after a comma.There are several different ways to write the date in English. They vary from formal to informal, and there are differences between British and American English. The following table shows some typical formats. How you write the date usually depends on whether you write a formal letter or an informal note; or whether your use the British or American date format. In addition, when writing the times 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, etc., it is perfectly acceptable to omit the zeroes and write 1 pm, 2 pm, instead. Finally, note that while in the US we use a 12-hour clock, some countries use a 24-hour clock, or military time.
